Sabudana Khichdi || Sabbakki Uppittu || Sabudana Upma

Sabudana khichdi

Ingredients:

  • Sabudana / Sabbakki - 1 cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Onion (optional) - 1          
  • Potato (medium) - 1
  • Green chillies - 4
  • Mustard seeds (optional) - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds /Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Peanuts - 2 tbsp 
  • Chana dal (optional)- 1/ 2 tsp
  • Urad dal (optional) - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - as per taste 
  • Sugar - 3/4 tsp
  • Lemon - 1 tbsp 
  • Water - 3/4 cup

Sabudana khichdi

Preparation:

  1. Add sabudana to a large bowl and rinse with water for 2 to 3 times.
  2. Add 3/4 cup of water and soak the rinsed sabudana for 3 hours or until it becomes soft. Drain out the water completely and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Wait till the mustard seeds splutter.
  4. Now add chana dal, urad dal and peanuts. Roast them till golden brown.
  5. Add chopped or slit green chillies and curry leaves. Saute well.
  6. Add the chopped onions and saute until they turn translucent.
  7. Add chopped potato pieces and saute till they become soft.
  8. Now add turmeric powder and sugar. Mix well.
  9. Add sabudana and required salt. Mix well.
  10. Cover and cook for 3 minutes in low flame.
  11. Turn OFF the stove. Add lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix well together.
  12. Enjoy yummy Sabudana khichdi.

Note:

  • You can avoid onion during vrat or fast.
  • Ghee can be used instead of oil.
