Shavige Payasa | Semiya Kheer (with Jaggery)

Shavige payasa

Ingredients:

  • Roasted wheat shavige/ semiya - 1 cup (180 ml)
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  • Jaggery (crushed) - 3/4 cup
  • Kesari / Saffron - pinch
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Milk - 4 cups
  • Cardamom / elaichi powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Raisin - 6-8
  • Cashew (broken) - 6
  • Almond (chopped) - 5

Shavige payasa

Preparation:

  1. Soak a pinch of kesari in warm milk. Keep aside.
  2. Add 2 tsp ghee to kadai, add broken cashews and raisins. Roast them till golden brown. Take out only the dry fruits and keep aside. 
  3. Add roasted wheat shavige to the remaining ghee in the same kadai and saute.
  4. Add 1/2 cup of water and 1 cup of milk. Cook for 5 -10 minutes till shavige becomes soft.
  5. Add kesari milk and 2 cups of milk to the shavige. Cook till it thickens.
  6. Add crushed jaggery, 1 more cup of milk, cardamom powder and add a little quantity of the roasted dry fruits. Mix well.
  7. Garnish with chopped almonds and remaining roasted dryfruits. Serve delicious Shavige payasa / Semiya kheer warm or chilled.
